Construction services are an integral part of GRW's project management principles. Because we operate with a philosophy that allows team members to follow a project from "cradle to grave" -- that is planning and design through construction and start-up -- all our design professionals have extensive experience in project management and construction administration.
In addition, GRW maintains a staff of experienced resident project representatives and construction services professionals who can provide full-time or part-time construction observation for our projects.
We work with you to provide the level of construction services desired for the type of project involved - and make the process as easy as possible for our clients.
Because we offer multidiscipline design services our projects can range from fire stations and roadways to water resource recovery facilities and many other types of projects.
Depending on the type of project, construction services will have some differences. For example, our transportation-related projects focus on DOT-specific requirements, like this project for Indianapolis Department of Public Works/INDOT - while our resident project representatives involved with water resources projects, like this one for LFUCG and this one for Versailles, KY, are trained to understand another group of agency regulations.
Regardless of the project, our construction services share many similarities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following activities.
Construction Observation
- Act as liaison between owner and contractor
- Assist contractor to coordinate the establishment project lines, grades, etc.
- Maintain communication among all stakeholders (engineers, utilities, homeowners, other staff, etc.)
- Observe contractor’s work
- Monitor project schedules
- Take jobsite photographs
- Keep up on material records
- Complete daily reports (like the sample shown in image carousel above)
- Maintain as-built drawings
Construction Administration
- Review shop drawing and contractor submittals
- Complete pay estimates
- Interpret/respond to contractor questions
- Keep up on material records
- Monitor payroll
- Conduct monthly progress meetings and provide minutes
- Complete pre-final walkthrough
- Prepare punch-list
- Coordinate closeout
- Complete record drawings
In many ways, our construction observation professionals are the eyes and ears for our clients and our design engineers. Each of these employees is experienced in the dynamics of construction, as well as design specifications. Their daily reports support the adage a picture is worth a thousand words; the many dozens of photos they take document important aspects of projects for future review.
